This Cookie Policy explains how DIY Toolshare Ltd (“DIY Toolshare”, “we”, “us” or “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit or use the DIY Toolshare website.
It also explains certain related advertising measurement technologies, including server-side conversion measurement, where their use is controlled by the choices you make through our cookie controls.
This Cookie Policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains more generally how we collect, use, share and protect personal data.

1. What are cookies and similar technologies?
Cookies are small text files that may be stored on your computer, phone or other device when you visit a website.
Websites may also use similar technologies, including pixels, tags, browser local storage and other identifiers. In this Cookie Policy, references to “cookies and similar technologies” include these technologies where appropriate.
Some technologies are necessary for DIY Toolshare to operate securely and provide its core functions. Others are optional and are used only where you have made the relevant choice through our cookie controls.
2. The categories we use
Our cookie controls contain three categories.
Strictly necessary
These technologies are required to operate, secure or provide essential functions of DIY Toolshare.
They may be used to:
- keep you signed in;
- maintain and secure your session;
- prevent fraud, abuse and unauthorised access;
- support secure payments;
- provide essential marketplace functionality; and
- remember your cookie choices.
Strictly necessary technologies cannot be switched off through our cookie controls.
Analytics
The Analytics setting controls consent for optional third-party analytics technologies, such as Google Analytics, if we use them.
It also controls Google’s analytics_storage consent signal.
We do not currently use Google Analytics 4 or another consent-gated third-party analytics service on the DIY Toolshare website. This means that, at present, allowing Analytics does not cause an additional analytics service to store analytics cookies on your device.
If we introduce a consent-gated analytics provider in future, we will update this Cookie Policy and, where required, ask you to make a new choice before that provider is activated.
The Analytics setting also controls whether we store a small record of how you first reached DIY Toolshare in this browsing session, such as the website you came from or the campaign details in the link you followed. This is kept only in your browser for the current session, is used only for our own reporting, and is not shared with advertising providers. If you decline or later withdraw Analytics, we do not store it and we remove anything already stored.
Our use of Plausible Analytics is explained separately in Section 6. Plausible is not controlled by the Analytics toggle because our current implementation does not store analytics cookies or persistent analytics identifiers on your device.
Advertising
With your permission, we use advertising technologies to measure the effectiveness of DIY Toolshare advertising and help us show more relevant advertising.
These technologies may be used to:
- understand which adverts and campaigns lead to visits or actions on DIY Toolshare;
- measure registrations, bookings, rentals and other conversions;
- create or use advertising audiences;
- exclude certain audiences from particular campaigns where appropriate; and
- help us show more relevant DIY Toolshare advertising on services such as Google, Facebook and Instagram.
Optional Advertising technologies are not enabled unless you have allowed Advertising through our cookie controls.
3. Your choices and how we record them
When you first visit DIY Toolshare, you can choose whether to allow Analytics and Advertising technologies.
You can accept all optional technologies, reject them, or make an individual choice for each category.
You can change or withdraw your choices at any time through Cookie Settings.
Rejecting Analytics or Advertising technologies will not prevent you from using the main functions of DIY Toolshare.
We remember your cookie choices for approximately 182 days (six months). When that period expires, we will normally ask you to confirm your choices again when you next visit.
For signed-in users, we may also store a record of your consent decision so that we can remember and demonstrate the choice you made. This record may include:
- the categories you accepted or rejected;
- the version of the consent information presented to you;
- the date and time of your choice;
- your IP address; and
- your browser user agent.
We retain consent records for an appropriate period where necessary to demonstrate and manage your privacy choices.
Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that lawfully took place before your consent was withdrawn.
4. Strictly necessary technologies
We use strictly necessary technologies where required to provide or secure DIY Toolshare.
These include technologies used for authentication, session management, security, fraud prevention, payment security and remembering your cookie preferences.
Some payment security technologies are provided by Stripe, our payment services provider.
Stripe.js may use cookies and similar technologies to identify potentially fraudulent behaviour and help Stripe assess the risk associated with attempted transactions. These fraud-prevention technologies may operate without optional cookie consent because they are used to support secure payment functionality and protect the Platform and its users.
5. Stripe payment and fraud-prevention technologies
DIY Toolshare uses Stripe to support payments and payment-related security.
Stripe may use technologies including __stripe_mid, __stripe_sid and m for fraud prevention. These technologies help Stripe distinguish legitimate activity from potentially fraudulent activity and assess transaction risk.
Information collected by Stripe for these purposes may include device, browser and activity signals.
Stripe operates these technologies under its own privacy and data-protection arrangements. More information about our use of Stripe and the sharing of personal data with service providers is available in our Privacy Policy.
6. Plausible Analytics
We use Plausible Analytics to understand general use of DIY Toolshare and improve the Platform.
Our current Plausible implementation is designed to operate without placing analytics cookies on your device or creating persistent identifiers used to follow you across websites.
Plausible may provide us with aggregated information such as pages visited, how visitors arrive at the website, general browser or device information and overall traffic patterns.
Because our current implementation does not store or access information on your device for analytics tracking, Plausible is not controlled by the Analytics toggle and continues to provide aggregate website statistics whether Analytics is accepted or declined.
7. Google Ads and Google tags
With your permission, we use Google advertising technologies, including Google Ads conversion measurement and Google tags.
These technologies may help us:
- identify whether someone visited DIY Toolshare after interacting with a Google advertisement;
- measure registrations, bookings and other conversion actions;
- understand which adverts and campaigns are effective;
- create or use advertising audiences; and
- show more relevant DIY Toolshare advertising.
Google advertising technologies may use cookies, browser storage, advertising click identifiers and technical information to associate an advertising interaction with a later action on DIY Toolshare.
Our cookie controls communicate consent choices to Google using consent signals including:
- ad_storage, which controls advertising-related storage;
- ad_user_data, which controls the sending of advertising-related user data;
- ad_personalization, which controls personalised advertising; and
- analytics_storage, which controls analytics-related storage.
The Advertising setting controls the first three advertising signals. The Analytics setting controls analytics_storage.
We do not currently send server-side enhanced conversion data to Google. If we introduce additional Google conversion technologies that process further personal data, we will update our disclosures and obtain any consent required before using them.
How Google uses your data
Where you consent to Google advertising technologies, Google may process personal data it receives from DIY Toolshare for advertising measurement, personalisation and related purposes. For more information about how Google processes personal information from sites and apps that use its services, see Google’s Business Data Responsibility site.
8. Meta Pixel and Meta Conversions API
With your permission, we use the Meta Pixel and Meta Conversions API to measure DIY Toolshare advertising on services such as Facebook and Instagram.
The Meta Pixel operates through the browser and may use cookies or browser identifiers to help measure visits and actions after someone views or interacts with a Meta advertisement.
Where you have allowed Advertising technologies, we may also send conversion information directly from our servers to Meta using the Meta Conversions API. This helps us measure the same advertising actions more accurately.
Browser and server events may contain identifiers that allow Meta to recognise that they relate to the same action so that one conversion is not counted twice.
Information sent through Meta conversion measurement may include:
- the type of action or conversion;
- the date and time of the action;
- relevant event or transaction identifiers;
- your IP address;
- your browser user agent; and
- where you are signed in, a cryptographically hashed version of your email address and internal account identifier.
Where an email address or account identifier is used for matching, we transform it using SHA-256 hashing before transmission. We do not transmit your email address to Meta in plain text through the Conversions API. Hashed identifiers may still constitute personal data because they can be used for matching purposes.
We do not send special category personal data through the Meta Pixel or Conversions API.
Meta advertising technologies may be used to:
- measure visits and conversions from Facebook and Instagram advertising;
- understand which adverts and campaigns are effective;
- create advertising audiences;
- exclude certain audiences from particular campaigns where appropriate; and
- help show more relevant DIY Toolshare advertising.
The Meta Pixel and consent-dependent Meta Conversions API events are controlled by the Advertising choice on the website. We do not send consent-dependent Meta conversion events where the required Advertising permission has not been provided.
For certain collection and transmission of personal data through Meta Business Tools, DIY Toolshare and the relevant Meta entity act as joint controllers. The allocation of responsibilities for this processing is governed by Meta’s applicable Business Tools Terms and Controller Addendum. Meta may act as an independent controller for subsequent processing carried out within its own services.
9. Advertising events we may measure
Depending on the advertising platform and the features being used, we may measure actions taken on DIY Toolshare to understand advertising performance and conversions.
Events we measure now, or may introduce as DIY Toolshare develops, may include:
- visiting the website;
- viewing a tool listing;
- searching for tools;
- registering an account;
- adding a tool to a wishlist;
- submitting or requesting a booking;
- beginning a booking or checkout;
- completing a booking or rental;
- publishing a tool listing;
- becoming an active lender; and
- submitting an enquiry or other lead action.
Not all of these events are necessarily active at all times. We may introduce measurement of additional marketplace actions as our advertising and Platform features develop.
Where this involves a materially different use of personal data, a new provider or a new category of technology, we will update this Cookie Policy and request fresh consent where required.
We limit advertising event data to information relevant to campaign measurement, attribution, audience creation and advertising optimisation.
Special category personal data is not sent through our advertising tags, pixels or server-side conversion events.

The technologies actually present may depend on how you reached DIY Toolshare, the features you use and the choices you make.
Third-party providers may change their cookie names, operation or retention periods from time to time. We review our implementation and will update this table where appropriate.
No Google Analytics 4 cookies are currently set by DIY Toolshare. If we introduce Google Analytics 4 or another optional analytics provider, we will update this table before or when that technology is introduced and request fresh consent where required.
11. International data transfers
Some of the providers described in this Cookie Policy, including Google, Meta and Stripe, may process personal data outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States.
Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, the safeguards described in the International data transfers section of our Privacy Policy apply.

12. Changing or withdrawing your consent
You can change your choices at any time through Cookie Settings.
Changing your settings takes effect for future use of optional technologies.
If you withdraw Advertising consent, we will communicate that choice to the relevant advertising technologies and stop future consent-dependent advertising activity, subject to the operation of your browser and the relevant third-party services.
For example, where applicable, we update Google’s consent signals and revoke Meta advertising consent for future activity.
If you withdraw Analytics consent, analytics_storage will be set accordingly, we remove the record of how you first reached the site, and any consent-gated analytics technologies introduced in future will not be permitted to use analytics storage.
Withdrawing consent does not automatically remove cookies or other information that may already have been stored on your device. Some third-party cookies cannot be deleted directly by DIY Toolshare. You can remove these through your browser or device settings.
Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that lawfully took place before your consent was withdrawn.
You can also manage or delete cookies and other stored website data through your browser settings.
Blocking strictly necessary technologies through your browser may prevent some parts of DIY Toolshare from operating correctly.
13. Changes to providers or technologies
We may update this Cookie Policy where the technologies we use, the providers we work with or legal and regulatory requirements change.
Our cookie controls use a consent version so that a choice given under one version is not automatically treated as permission for materially different technologies introduced later.
Where we add a new provider or a new category of technology, we will treat existing permissions as no longer covering that new use where fresh consent is required, and ask you again through our cookie controls.
We may also ask you to confirm your choices again periodically, including after the normal six-month consent period.
The latest version of this Cookie Policy will show the date it was last updated.
14. Mobile applications
The cookie and advertising controls described in this Policy apply to the DIY Toolshare website.
Our native mobile applications use a web-based application environment but do not currently activate the website advertising technologies described in this Policy within the native application.
Advertising measurement technologies used on the website, including browser-based Meta and Google advertising tags, are therefore not currently used for activity taking place within the native mobile application.
If we introduce analytics, advertising measurement or equivalent technologies specifically for our native applications in future, we will provide appropriate information and controls before activating technologies that require consent.
